Does fat freezing work?
So you’ve heard about a new option for getting rid of fat and contouring the body without surgery, called cryolipolysis? It sounds great but now you’re wondering if it’s too good to be true. You want to find out how does fat freezing work. Can you freeze fat cells and achieve weight loss without cosmetic surgery? That’s a great question, and this article will answer it for you.
The first thing to note is that while body contouring cosmetic treatments have exploded in popularity in recent years, fat freezing is not a new technology. The cryolipolysis treatment was developed over a decade ago and has since been refined and improved. Cryolipolisis has also undergone rigorous scientific investigation to examine its therapeutic value and has been found to have significant fat reduction capabilities.
The discovery of cryolipolysis is said to have originated with an observation by doctors that some children who ate a lot of ice blocks lost fat volume in their cheeks. They thought this may be due to the effect of freezing fat cells. From this chance discovery, years of research, testing and development led to the first commercially available cryolipolysis treatment devices which are able to freeze fat cells while keeping skin cells safe.
What Is Fat Freezing?
Cryolipolysis Fat Freezing is non-invasive and effectively removes fat using the localised application of cooling. This cooling freezes and breaks apart stubborn fat cells. At Elite Body Contouring we use a CoolShaping machine (Improved alternative to the CoolSculpting device). The device has a smart applicator capable of targeting stubborn fat areas such as love handles, muffin tops, thighs, bellies and double chins.
After the subcutaneous fat tissue is destroyed in the freezing process the body safely removes the dead fat cells using its natural elimination processes. CoolShaping cryolipolysis offers the most advanced body slimming solution available on the market, integrating a number of cutting edge technologies. The system delivers focussed cryo-energy to problem areas. This treatment excels at targeting and disintegrating fat cells without affecting the skin or any other part of the body. This makes it an effective and safe alternative to liposuction.
At What Temperature Does Fat Freeze?
In order to avoid cold damage to the skin, a precise temperature level is determined, and is generally set at −10 °C (14 °F). The fatty tissue under the skin is cooled to a point less than body temperature but just above actual freezing. This triggers localised cell death (or ‘apoptosis’) in you fat cells.
During a cryolipolysis treatment the temperature of your skin which comes into contact with the CoolShaping applicator is constantly monitored to ensure complete safety. The temperature of the applicator responds to this feedback so your cells will never completely freeze but will be chilled to a low enough temperature that fat cell death is triggered.
CoolShaping is based on the premise that skin cells are harder to damage with cooling than fat cells. This discovery led to the development of a thermal conduction method of applying low temperatures to tissue. Cryolipolysis treatments are now enjoyed by thousands of Elite Body Contouring clients every year.
Does Fat Freezing Hurt?
The short answer to this question is no. For the vast majority of people, cryolipolysis treatments cause very little or no discomfort. If there was a slight discomfort experience it is generally just a cold sensation or a numb feeling which passes quickly.
The applicator uses suction to hold the skin in place in the treated area while freezing fat cells. This suction can cause some minor and temporary bruising. This passes quickly if it does occur and is generally very mild.
Our cryolipolysis treatments are relaxed and comfortable. Elite Body Contouring is committed to providing the best cosmetic treatment experience available on the market for all our clients. This doesn’t just involve the quality and efficacy of the treatments but the care we take to ensure your comfort is our top priority at all times.
We provide luxurious clinical experiences in spacious treatment rooms. Each room comes with its own modern, generously sized leather treatment bed and personal television with Netflix for your entertainment during the fat reduction.
Cryolipolysis Fat Freezing Side Effects
CoolShaping takes less than an hour and there is zero recovery time because the skin and tissue is not damaged during the treatment. Some people do experience a mild soreness around the treated area but this is similar to the discomfort you might experience after a gym workout and passes quickly.
The treated fat area will decrease by an average of 20 percent following the cryolipolysis treatment. To gain the full effect of the treatment, the body takes around four months to completely process and eliminate the fat cells.
Does Fat Freezing Really Work?
A scientific research study was conducted in 2015 titled “The Safety and Efficacy of Cryolipolysis: A Systematic Review of Available Literature”. The research acknowledged that “in the past decade, the practice of body contouring using cryolipolysis has increased tremendously”. The report’s aim was to “systematically review available literature to better illustrate the efficacy and safety of this new procedure”. In other words, the aim of the research was to find out – “Does fat freezing really work?”.
After systematically reviewing all the existing available research on the subject the study found that cryolipolysis treatments for freezing fat cells do work and it are effective at safely destroying fat cells. The report concluded that “Selective cryolipolysis appears, at short-term follow-up, to reliably decrease subcutaneous tissue deposits. Reported complications are uncommon and appear to resolve without intervention”. In other words, the research confirms that fat freezing is a safe and effective alternative to liposuction. It will reliably decrease fat and any side effects are uncommon and go away by themselves.
